AN APPEAL TO RABBIT BREEDERS IN NIGERIA
As I write this piece I am overwhelmed with joy because every day we keep getting new people into the rabbit industry, starting to raise their own rabbits in pairs and sometimes in hundreds.
Some new entrants in their own little way want to do just what I call ‘Augmentation’ of their income through the profit they will be making in their new venture. Others just want a new meat source; having lost their loved ones and country men to herdsmen carnage. Others just want to make good profit and others want to make huge and unrealistic profits from rabbit farming within a very short period of time. The last group of new entrants into the rabbit farming industry in Nigeria just want companionship and attachment to the furry creatures, in the ears of whom they can safely whisper their hearts.
You might be wondering what precisely I am talking about today. Well, am simply just want to appeal to you my dear reader to keep reading, whether you are newbie, and old timer or an entrepreneur looking into the prospects of rabbit farming in Nigeria, just keep reading…
It has been a dream of ours at JF Rabbits that soon enough the cleanest and tastiest and most nutritious meat ever gifted to man by God will be common place in every household in Nigerian and beyond
Let Them Eat Rabbit Is Venezuelan
President's Response To Food Shortages 2017 / 7:42 AM / A YEAR AGO
“Rabbits are one of the most potent tool given to man by God to fight against hunger, lifestyle diseases, malnutrition and poverty.
No apologies to our friends who pet rabbits; If you are wondering why we eat our rabbits then you should get the answer here: Rabbits now city chickens
We have tried to spread the message and we are still spreading the message of the wonders and potentials of this highly productive meat source (Rabbit) through blogging, social media, twitter and word of mouth and other channels we find appropriate. Even while doing so we get challenged by our weaker selves with all sort of nags and nays. ‘You are giving out all the valuable information for free’ like we are about to do, ‘you are calling for more competitors’, ‘you won’t get out of this…’ A routine battle between lower and higher self.
Just as we at JF Rabbits have also made it routine to ignore the lower and listen to the higher, we implore you old breeders and new entrants to do same.
‘If we don’t get more people into rabbit breeding how do we get rabbit meat to every family in Nigeria?’
‘Nigeria is approximately 200,000,000 people put together, that is two hundred million! Why should we worry among ourselves (rabbit breeders) about some remote competitor, when the law of averages is begging for our attention’
‘We need every student, every working class, every retiree, every graduate, every drop-out, every entrepreneur and entrepreneur, every hard-working lazy Nigerian youth, every man and every woman, every young and every old to plug into the rabbit farming movement in Nigeria.

With the creation of genuine awareness about the reproductive prowess of rabbits and about the uniqueness of their nutritious meat, there will be increased interest which gives rise to the possibility of an expansion beyond anybody’s imagination.
We strongly belief the above paragraph is synonymous with hitting two birds with one stone. First of all, with increased awareness comes increased usage, increased demand, increased sales and increased profit in that order.

Secondly, even if the rabbits are sold in tows and hundreds for a profit, the seller is in fact being instrumental to equipping the buyers with an effective medicine to weather the coming storm in Nigeria
In all these, we find no room for bitterness and wavering thoughts “There is more work to be done” becomes our common slogan.
Today, technology has given us enormous power and control over how to produce, what quantity to produce and how to get our rabbits to the end users and so on. This power can be reflected in our status, our life styles or our pockets depending on how we chose to use the technology at our disposal.
We at JF Rabbits therefore appeal to one and all within the rabbit farming industry in Nigeria to be genuinely concerned, truthful and helpful to new entrants, some of whom enthusiastically belief that living a pair of bunny flip-flops in the cupboard will result to baby rabbits. Amongst us old breeders, there is no better time than now to seek new ideas and to offer new ideas, to instruct and to be instructed.
Iffeanyi’s rabbitry |
A new rabbitry we assisted Mr. Ifeanyi to setup in Duste-Bwari, Abuja, Nigeria. It cost a total of N42,000 and has the following: A self-cleaning floor, 10 large compartments that can be divided in twos, Feeding bowls and drinkers, adequate ventilation, protection and ample space.
At JF Rabbits we were happy to welcome Mr. Ifeanyi. And for the joy we derive from it, we are holding his hands, teaching him the ropes until he can fly in the rabbit farming business. Mr. Ifeanyi plans to use the remaining space in his compound to expand his new venture.
When we send out good we receive good in return (in one way or another), good will always return to us. Therefore, we shouldn't be a barrier to someone’s success.
Call JF Rabbits crazy but we also belief that there should be little or no entry barriers to rabbit farming in Nigeria. However, some of us have commissioned ourselves as barriers not only to new entrants but also to the progress of other rabbit breeders.
It is time we do away with the toxics in the industry. IF we ever hope to grow the rabbit farming industry and attain new heights, supporting each other genuinely is our only way out.
